Note by author. I recommend the new book (click title on the right) over the previous one, below (1998), which never got finished. The new book (2007) is being revised but it is complete. I’ll try to finish the 1998 book later.

JOIN THE India Policy Debates

"Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppression of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day." - Thomas Jefferson.

"Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric." - Bertrand Russell

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out -
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out -
because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out -
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me -
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."

Martin Niemoller.

P.S. In this book, communism will be shown to be destructive of the growth of the economy and society. However, I will not have anyone decry a communist as a person. In this case, from the confused socialist leaders and communist terrorists of India, I expect the same forbearance while I propound why we must be the most ruthlessly competitive and strictly capitalist society in the world, in order to return to our usual position of dominance in the material world. We will debate with the pen and we will not kill each other in this process. If you win, I will join you. If I win, you promise to join me.

"Economic incentive, economic incentive: I have seen that ultimately everything in human life - time, space, love, longevity, power, and health, even death and religion - mostly boils down to money." (Wow! Now that I have made this ultimate discovery, do I get a Nobel Prize for Economics or what? : Sanjeev Sabhlok, the new Archimedes)

"False, false, false. The above statement is false. My enjoyment of a peaceful moment in the winter sun is not dependent on the money I possess. It depends on my attitude toward life." (that was me again)

"True, but the fact that I am alive - and generally healthy, and thus able to enjoy a painless moment in the sun, at the age of nearly 40, is a function of the wealth that the world has generated; the science that eliminated my inguinal hernia when I was 11, my gastro-oesophagal reflux disease when I was 37, prevented me from having polio, small-pox and tetanus, and overcome my myopia. Without money none of these could have been supplied to me. Even though vaccines were supplied to me free of cost, someone paid for them through their taxes. Without money, and science, half of the people of the world were dying before they reached 5 years of age, and most of those who survived to my age lived in great pain." (See! I proved my point!)

A final note before you begin: I wish to mention at the outset that the "tone" of the material inside might at times appear too blunt and even rude, perhaps even arrogant. Please bear with me. I wish to assure you that this material is only a preliminary draft. It has been written with the intention of "writing" from the heart; writing first, editing later. I am always grateful to the many comments, suggestions, and additions received from readers around the world.
